World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades can boost the value of weapons, armors and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.
For instance a weapon that has the upgrade template ending in % will gain 3damage to attack each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).
The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with item's level.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons and trinkets to give an extra stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades also have specific cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can only be applied to devices that have slots. The item must be upgraded to blue level before a component can be applied. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used one time; they can't be used multiple times or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a specific kind of upgrade component that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment and some of the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging ascended gear or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
An upgrade may be prefixed or a suffix that alters the name of the equipment to which it is applied (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, which lets players create stronger versions with less upgrade crystals than they need to reach the same level with normal methods.
A boost upgrade can change the attack or defense attributes of the weapon or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be crafted at the Portative Forging Station. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or purchasing them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals per.
The player is able to have a maximum of five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the chance that a better-quality version of the item will appear at the time of the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their equipment even in the event that they don't know how much it will be improved following the reset.
The boost upgrade may be successful or not, the process can be costly, and there is a substantial risk that the item may be obsolete or even break when it fails; a unsuccessful upgrade could cause the destruction of Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. This is alleviated by the availability cash shop items that double or even eliminate chance of failure, and some upgrades that offer the benefit of being reinserted into an item.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets that are specifically designed for. Glyphs can boost the performance of nodes within a radius, and include any existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways, and we recommend upgrading them to 15 levels as soon as possible.
You will often find in the endgame that placing Glyphs is the best method to upgrade your equipment. These are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded to level 15 and provide a significant boost to your power on the Paragon Board.
Most of the upgrades in the game can be replaced, but Glyphs are the only upgrade component that can be removed and put back in place without restriction. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and replaced with the aid of a Black Lion Salvage Kit.
The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it from your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.
Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase the glyphs with certain tools that allow unlimited use as well as during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt has a chance to drop one of the numerous Glyphs, and there are some rare glyphs that can be obtained as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.
Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs you'll need them to be placed on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that boosts a particular set of stat nodes that are within a radius of the Glyph. Based on the Glyph it could be +40 to one of your primary stats or +25 to two of your secondary stats.
Glyphs will boost all nodes connected to them, therefore it is recommended to place Glyphs in strategic places on the Graph. This will increase the impact. For example an Druid should aim to place their Glyphs near their primary damage nodes however, you may also want to think about placing them near crucial damage nodes too.
Leveling
The upgrade system for items allows players to increase the effectiveness of certain items by placing upgraded components inside them. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level which determines the final stats. Upgraded items may be leveled up to a maximum level of 385. Each level requires a different number of components and the costs for upgrading increase as the item is leveled up.
Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab of a crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe completed yields a certain number of Technology points. These points can be used to level the item, and when enough points are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and any additional bonuses will be added to the item.
When a player improves a piece of equipment the original item is replaced by a new item. The same armor will receive the form of a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will also have a unique bonus. This could be a problem because it can make the item more expensive if you do not need it.
The upgrades to items can be rerolled, if the player has enough reroll tokens to do this. The item will be replaced by the same item, but it has a base of level 1 and totally different bonuses. This can be useful for some items, but it shouldn't be performed frequently, since it can waste lots of resources.
Certain upgrades can increase their value, allowing players to customize their equipment. One example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives a buff when the player repeatedly enters and leaves the water (or does not swim as a dolphin). It can be upgraded multiple times, each time raising the max roll by 10 points. This item is extremely valuable in PvP as an item that is properly rolled it could be worth between 20 and 50x its value if it is not upgraded.
Requirements
The item upgrader allows players to increase the level of their equippable equipment (armor, weapons trinkets, and weapons) beyond ilvl385 by handing over the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces improve the strength of their base defense and upgrades to weapon items increase the damage they deal as well as the required strength and dexterity.
Each item can be upgraded up to five times, except for hero equipment, which is able to be upgraded eight times. Each time you upgrade a piece of equipment, it has a chance of failing. The rate of failure increases as you go over the maximum number. Failures will cause the item to revert to its original condition, which requires the user to spend more materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the maximum number of upgrades.
If an item fails to upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item will also lose any bonuses it gained, such as the chance to crit, attack damage, or other effects (such as increased heal over time, or the speed of reloading). However, the user can continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.
When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that the weapon that is upgraded gains a crit chance increase that it will be applied before any attack damage increases. A new attribute known as Slots is now added to the definition of the item and the value is recomputed every time an upgrade is made.
The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item are determined by its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade--for instance, a standard equipment item may have five upgrades at a cost of 25,600 Technology Points and a 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero grade items will come with an incredibly lower cost for each additional upgrade.
Premium items have different upgrade requirements in comparison to standard equipment. For instance, they might require fewer sowels, but they will require more minerals and erons. Regardless, the player will need to visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine with each piece of equipment they want to upgrade. Each upgrade to equipment requires different amounts of ingredients for upgrading, in addition to the expenses that are listed above.
